Credit by Exam (CbE)

• Students at the high school have the opportunity to take exams as another method of earning credit for a course
• If a student have had prior instruction in the content area, then the exam score must equal at least a 70%
• Students that have no prior instruction in the content area must score at least an 80% on the CbE exam
• Exams are given during specific testing windows of time throughout the year - please see Calendar for specific dates
• Interested students must visit with their Counselor at least 30 days prior to the scheduled testing window in order to register

STAAR EOCs

• The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) program, which was implemented in spring 2012, includes annual assessments for end-of-course (EOC) English I, English II, Algebra I, Biology and U.S. History
• Students must successfully meet the passing standards for all 5 exams in order to meet graduation requirments
• The STAAR program includes assessments that address students receiving special education services (STAAR A and STAAR Alternate 2) and also for English language learners (ELLs) (STAAR L) who meet particular participation requirements

TELPAS

• TEA designed the Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System (TELPAS) to assess the progress that limited English proficient (LEP) students make in learning the English language
• This assessment consists of measuring students in the domains of Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening and involves students in both an online Reading exam as well as the submission of sample writings across all content areas

Advanced Placement (AP)

• Program that supports the relationship between high school and college
• Students are exposed to college level material and  course expectations
• Students who successfully score a 3, 4 or 5 on an AP exam are granted credit by Texas public colleges. For other universities, please check their admission policies
• Exams require a non-refundable deposit of $10.00 to be paid to the Student Office (to be paid in 1st semester)
• Spring registration is online at aptestservice.com/princeton
• Exam prices are set by College Board each year
• Students that qualify for free/reduced lunch have a reduced price for exams (please visit with Mrs. Cain)
• Exams are always given in the first two weeks of May according to the schedule set by College Board (please see Calendar for more details)

Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB)

• The most widely used multiple aptitude test battery in the world that assesses a student's ability to learn new skills
• Predictor of success in training and education programs
• Includes an interest inventory along with activities/resources designed to help students explore the world of work
• Exam is free to students in the 10th-12th grades
• Online registration is at aptestservice.com/princeton
• Exam results are not released to the military
• Exam is given in November (please see Calendar for specific date)

Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT)

• PSAT has been redesigned by College Board for the fall of 2015
• PSAT 8/9 - consists of questions in Evidence-Based Reading and Writing and in Math, which helps to establish a baseline for 8th grade and Freshmen students as they enter high school and begin preparing for college/career readiness
• PSAT 10 - helps Sophomore students to strengthen the skills and knowledge which they are learning in class
• PSAT/NMSQT - important for Juniors to take as they prepare for the real SAT at the end of the year. This exam is always given in October.
• For each of these exams, students will receive individual suggestions on how to improve academic skills

Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)

• Redesigned SAT first given in March 2016
• Includes 154 questions in Evidence-Based Reading and Writing along with Math
• Test administration is 3 hours or 3 hours 50 minutes with optional Essay
• Measure skills and knowledge students need to be ready for in college and beyond
• Better reflects what students learn in class
• Focuses on math that research shows is used most in college and career
• Questions in the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing sections are passage-based with student being asked to support answers
• Scores range from 400 - 1600 with no penalty for guessing
• College Board offers fee waivers to eligible students - please see your Counselor for more information
• Student must create an account at www.collegeboard.org in order to register for the exam; receive test scores and send scores to schools
